Dubai is an amazing place, there are new places opening up everyday, be it Retail or F&B. You can never know all the places around town, and you don’t have to repeat if you don’t want to. Now the recent opening of City Walk is the new buzz in town. It recently opened doors to its new extension and is perfectly located in the heart of Jumeirah, boasting ideal outdoor seating and several cafes from around the world have opened up here. There’s ample parking in the back end.
So it was Mother’s Day for Middle East Mums, on the 21st of March’2015, celebrated with great pios and prom. There were amazing deals offered everywhere, so we decided to source an Authentic Italian Eatery, and Sapori Di Bice came up. I had never been here, so my friend and I, who are both proud Mums of two boys (we can’t decide who’s boys are more naughty 🙂 ) so a treat was much deserved. The restaurant was offering a free dessert and a hot or cold beverage, with a minimum purchase.
Sapori Di Bice, operates under the BICE network, that’s been famous for its Tuscan inspired cuisine. They operate 35 restaurants all over the world, with branches in US, Europe, Asia and now the Middle East. They have won several awards since their first opening in 2009.The list includes, Best Seafood, Best Restaurant and What’s on Magazine. It’s won the Best Italian Restaurant in Dubai award for 2014 & 15.
We opted for their Business Lunch. It was a weekday, we reached around Noon. We were seated by our very hospitable hostess, and greeted by Chef Luca, who’s the head Chef at the City Walk Br. The menu is a two course meal, with a drink and dessert priced at 65/-AED and 55/-AED without dessert. How economical is that? And the food was just divine.
While we explored the menu, we were offered complimentary Foccacia with pesto sauce. We choose Fruit Sangria & Passion Fruit Virgin Mojito.
We had four options to choose from. I had a Insalata Di Pollo which is a chicken waldrof salad, with green apples, celery, walnuts with rich and creamy dressing. My friend had Burrata e Bresaola, a creamy Burrata served with Bresola of Valtelina, on rocket, topped with balsamic. Both the salad and the burrata were awesome, fresh crisp and world class ingredients.
For our second course, we ordered Penne Arrabbiata and Pollo Allo Spiedo (roasted crispy chicken). Now I usually don’t eat Arrabiata, but this was an exception because Sappori do their own pasta. Its made in-house fresh and so is this sauce. So this was perfectly well-proportioned, delicious tasting pasta and the roasted chicken was grilled to perfection in their in-house wooden rotary.
I’ve yet to see one, like the Sapori has in-house in any restaurant in Dubai, the rotary is a beauty and henceforth the chicken was grilled to perfection and tasted superb. They make their sauces in-house too, so the BBQ sauce wasn’t too sweet, in fact it complimented the chicken perfectly.
Next a hand pulled crust, artisan oven baked, delicious tasting, vegetarian pizza, that was topped with fresh mozzarella, zucchini and drizzled with pesto sauce. So light! Never knew I could say something like this about a pizza but that’s just what it was.
We tried a chicken and beef slider as well. Between the two, I liked the beef more because I prefer beef. Sapori bakes its own bread and cookies.
Everything at Sapori is done in-house. We had the pleasure of meeting the Pastry chef, who told us that they try to make some gluten free desserts, in-house ice cream, gelato, cakes, pastry, pies and cookies. So we had to give the desserts a shot too. We had their Tre Cioccolati & Caprese Al Limone. Both desserts were light, refreshing and tasted authentic. It seemed impossible that you could have such a lemon cake even when you aren’t at a brasserie in Italy.
We ended our meal with a black coffee for me and a jasmine tea for my friend. The barissta is very talented and the coffee is Italian, so it tasted perfect. We were served with their in-house baked traditional cookies, on the side.
Before leaving, we indulged in a spoon tasting of their Ice cream & Gelato, to soothe our stomach for the gastronomic blast we had given it & I absolutely loved the hazelnut ice cream.
Sapori does catering and in-house entertainment as well. They’ve a huge space and is ideal for birthday parties, bridal showers, baby showers or tea parties. The cakes are also prepared as custom orders for any occasion. All in all its a wonderful place that you’ve to visit once and then keep on doing it over and over again since you’ll be hooked to the authentic style of cooking and the great tasting food.
